By promoting understanding, acceptance and equality, they have begun the conversation about the power of the media in the advancement for equality while holding television shows, newspapers and social media accountable for the proper representation of these important issues.

The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN)

Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network strives to create safe school environments for all students. They have encouraged respect and acceptance in the classroom regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity since 1990 by working with teachers, students and the public. GLSEN recognizes the importance and benefits of a diverse community within an educational setting for all students of any background.

Harvey Milk Foundation

Harvey Milk believed broad public education and dialogue was paramount to his life's work as a civil rights leader and, as if riding on Harvey's shoulders, the Milk Foundation seeks to inspire individuals, communities and organizations to carry on his values in a timeless vision for a better world.

Human Rights Campaign (HRC)

The Human Rights Campaign represents a grassroots force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organizations, HRC envisions an America where LGBT people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.

Milk

Featuring a Special Introduction by Emmy-Winning Actor Neil Patrick Harris

In commemoration of Pride Month, USA Network proudly presents Milk as the fourth film in the Characters Unite Quarterly Film Series. The film recounts the touching true story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay person to be elected to office in the state of California. His victory in 1977 to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors was not simply a victory for gay rights but also for human rights. He changed the very nature of what it means to be a fighter striving for equality.

Released in 2008, Milk went on to garner eight Academy® Award nominations, winning for Best Actor for Sean Penn and Best Original Screenplay for Dustin Lance Black.

Harvey Milk gave hope to generations of LGBT Americans by encouraging them to live their lives openly and speak out against discrimination. The film showcases the importance of continuing the progress our nation has made since the historic election of Harvey Milk and advancing his dream for a world without hate.
