FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, THE FIRECRACKER FOUNDATION
Tashmica “Firecracker” Torok is a survivor of child sexual abuse. As a result of her experience, she is determined to empower and encourage other survivors who are healing from the devastating effects of sexual trauma.
In 2013, Tashmica founded The Firecracker Foundation, which honors the bravery of children who have survived sexual trauma by providing support and resources and building a community invested in their healing. The foundation has contracted therapists in the community to provide consistent, quality therapy to children and their families who have experienced abuse. Programs include weekly individual therapy sessions, trauma-focused therapeutic groups for children, and play therapy for children ages 3 to 18.
Tashmica is the wife of a talented tile installer and mother of three boys that carry her heart with them wherever they go. She is also the author of The Mother Flippin’ Blog, and a bi-monthly contributor to the Capital Area Women’s Lifestyle magazine.
She is also an avid roller derby athlete. Known as “Nina Firecracker” on the track, she is a member of the Lansing Derby Vixens (LDV). She serves on LDV’s Events Committee, planning fundraising events and helping to coordinate the hundreds of hours of volunteer service the Vixens commit to the Lansing community.
Tashmica is an inspiration to women everywhere. Her determination, passion and spirit have not only helped her survive her own trauma, but have served as the catalyst to help guide children down a positive and healing life path.
