Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC)
The Southern Poverty Law Center combats hate ad bigotry, and fights for the rights of the most vulnerable in our society. Over almost 40 years, the SPLC has won numerous landmark legal victories on behalf of the exploited, the powerless and the forgotten. Its lawsuits have toppled institutional racism in the South, cripples some of the nation's most violent white supremacist groups and won justice for abused workers, disabled children and other victims of discrimination.
The SPLC is internationally known for tracking and exposing the activities of hate groups in the United States and for Teaching Tolerance, an innovative program that produces and distributes — free of charge — documentary films, books lesson plans and other materials that promote tolerance and respect in our nation’s schools.
The SPLC works closely with law enforcement agencies to combat racist extremists and potential domestic terrorists, and offers a wealth of resources about these groups on its website, including its interactive “Hate Group Map.”
