Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD)
Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is dedicated to eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. GLAAD is in the business of changing people’s hearts and minds by promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events represented in the media. We know that what people watch on TV or read in their newspaper shapes how they view and treat the gay, lesbian and transgender people around them. We all have a responsibility to make sure those images foster awareness, understanding and respect.
GLAAD fights intolerance and discrimination by serving as a central watchdog and response network for monitoring negative and inflammatory content towards the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. GLAAD has a long history of combating defamation on a local and national level with such actions as media education, training, media appearances by GLAAD experts, monitoring, and enacting anti-defamation legislation.
